Task Force for
Energy, Environment, and Sustainability
2/11/09
Meeting minutes
The objectives of this
inaugural meeting were to get to know each others' individual
interests and to begin looking for the connections and interests we
have in common. These objectives were met, and I am inspired
by the networking we have accomplished in just one meeting.
Pat Hammann read the letter from Barack Obama in reply
to her daughter, Rebecca about his hopes for Rebecca's daughter,
Lucy. "You are right to be hopeful, because our children face
a future of limitless possibility. We know that a sustainable
way of life is essential to our children and grandchildren.
But beyond that, the quest for sustainability that you described
with such eloquence and passion is integral as well, because it is a
powerful amplifier, motivating peoples and nations to act in concert
so that all may benefit."
The Task Force found common
interest in Hundredfold Farm, local currency, energy raising, the
visit of Bill McKibben in April, local foods, gardening, solar hot
water, photovoltaics, and geothermal systems. We wish to
explore these areas and offer at our March meeting a variety of
plans for local projects, awareness events, and ways we can help
each other accomplish our shared vision of a sustainable
future. If you have an idea in mind, research what you can,
pick a date, and present your plan! Be impatient. Be the
change you've been waiting for.
The agenda for
the March meeting includes presentation by Patricia Hammann of
Tapestry of the Commons. If you wish to be included on the
agenda, please email me by the first Wednesday of the month.
Please provide the subject and specify the amount of time requested
for your presentation and discussion.
The next
meeting is 3/11 - at 6:30 pm at 227 W. High Street.
