Corneilius and Anna Houghtelin lived in the farmhouse that is now Gettysburg Battlefield B&B from the 1850's until Cornelius died in 1866. Today the Civil War farmhouse has eight B & B guest rooms today.
They had two sons and two daughters. The son's were serving in the Union forces during the war and were not in Gettysburg to help defend the family farm. Cornelius was captured by the Confederate forces, but released and sent home when he was recognized as a Mason by a Confederate fellow Mason. Cornelius Houghtelin was active in the Underground Railroad and in the Emancipation Movement.
There are two guest rooms and a common room in the old stone section of the inn. The General Merritt Suite is the upper floor of the stone building with a master bedroom, second bedroom, and spacious bath.
The Graham's Artillery Room was the original downstairs parlor for the farm family. The room has a queen bed and a twin bed.
Both rooms are filled with history and the spirit of Gettysburg.
