  • DSCN4370

150thCivil War Anniversary Innkeepers Winter Ball The Innkeepers Civil War Ball will be held in Gettysburg PA on January 26, 2013 at the Grand Ball Room of the Gettysburg Hotel. This year, the ball will kick off the 150th Civil War anniversary events as Gettysburg celebrates the Sesquincentennial of the 1863 Battle of Gettysburg. As part of the commemoration of this key event in our American history, the ball will feature Civil War music, 19thcentury dances, and period clothing.

Briant and Karin Bohleke will preside as dance masters. Music will be provided by Smash the Windows.
The day begins with dance lessons from 10 AM to noon. During the lessons, dancers will learn the steps for the evening dances. The afternoon is free to allow dancers time to prepare their ball attire and shop for last minute details that they might need for the evening affair. Dinner will be served at 6:30 PM. The Grand March will begin at 8 PM. Since dancers have already learned the steps, the evening ball focuses on dancing and having fun. Veteran dancer Marika Delgado has described the Innkeepers Winter Civil War ball as “the best ball of the season.”

Period clothing or formal wear are encouraged. There are several shops in the Gettysburg area that rent Civil War ball attire if dancers don't have their own period clothing. The Victorian Photography Studio will be available to take photos of dancers during the event. They also have a wardrobe of ball gowns and uniforms that can be rented for the dance.

The innkeepers have offered this winter ball every year since 1995. Dancers travel from across the country to participate in this exciting event. New dancers are always welcome. This particular ball is an excellent opportunity for newcomers to try out Civil War dancing because the lessons are included as part of the package.
