Dance Lessons Included

For seasoned period dancers and re-enactors, this ball is a wonderful weekend in Gettysburg doing what dancers and re-enactors love best - dressing up in period clothing and enjoy the music and dance from the 1860's. For the locals of Gettysburg - what a fun way to spend an evening in Gettysburg!  Even if folks are not re-enactors or history buffs, dressing in period clothing and learning a dance of another time, is just fun.  Lessons are provided in the morning before the dance so even beginners can feel confident on the dance floor. The Innkeepers Civil War Ball gives dancers a sense of what life was like here 145+ years ago.

Groups Make The Ball the
Centerpiece of a Fabulous Weekend

The innkeepers encourage groups of friends to participate. This will be the seventh year that a rather sizable group from Charles Town, West Virginia will be attending the annual Gettysburg Innkeepers' Ball. They are nearly all parishioners from the St. James Catholic Parish in Charles Town, and they will number about 60 this year.  The Innkeepers' Ball has become a much-anticipated weekend-getaway for people who are not just members of the same church, but very good friends as well.  They begin their weekend by gathering in the Eisenhower Room of the Gettysburg Hotel on Friday for an evening of food, libation and laughter.  All attend the dance rehearsal on Saturday morning, which has been described as "Pickett's Charge set to music," as well as the actual ball on Saturday evening.  Their weekend ends with a mass celebrated by Father George Pucciarelli in the Eisenhower Room on Sunday morning.  It was Father "Pooch" who strong-armed a half dozen parishioners into attending the ball seven years ago.  The experience proved to be an overwhelming delight, and their numbers multiplied fivefold by the following year.

Other groups have also developed their own traditions with the ball as the centerpiece. The guests here at Battlefield Bed & Breakfast have bonded over the years. Friday evening starts with a home-made pizza party and the fun goes on from there. The inn group is always delightfully welcoming to folks who have always wanted to participate in this kind of event.

We are eager to help your group plan a full weekend of events.
