Ghost Hunting in Gettysburg

What better place for a ghost hunt than the Gettysburg Battlefield!

From November-April, the Battlefield is open until 7 PM. During the warmer months, you can explore and ghost hunt until 10 PM.

Tools

Bring your digital camera to look for mists and orbs. You may want to bring a journal to record where you took your pictures. Photos in the dark are very hard to identify after you get home

Don't smoke, take photos near campfires, or in the rain or snow storms because you may end up with confusing anomalies caused by the smoke and precipitation.

If you have a scientific bent, you may also want to bring a digital thermometer to look for cold spots and a magnetic field detector. When you find a cold spot or magnetic field anomaly, you can try to contact the spirits.

A tape recorder is a good tool to use if you want to ask ghosts questions. Playback your tape and listen for answers .

Invite the ghosts to visit with you. Make them feel safe and welcome. Please treat spirits with the same respect that you would want if you were in their place. They may need your help. Ask them.

Bring a friend. You don't want to be out on the Battlefield alone at night. You don't know who--or what- may be out there with you.

Some of the more popular ghost hunting sites include Sach's Bridge, Devil's Den, The Triangular Field, Devil's Kitchen, and Iverson's Pits. Old Dorm at Gettysburg College, the Seminary, The Jenny Wade House, and The Orphanage are notorious for their ghost stories.

Are you afraid of ghosts? I've lived here for fourteen years and never seen a ghost. Do I believe in ghosts? I believe in ghost stories--the magic tales of visitations from beyond. This is the most peaceful place I've ever lived. If there are ghosts here, they are here to remind us of the important place that Gettysburg holds in the history of America. The ghost stories connect us with the history. The peace that you will experience is pervasive. Come share the experience.--Florence  Tarbox, Innkeeper
