restaurants, ghost tours, re-enactor supply shops, artifact
shops, antique stores, art galleries, hiking, biking,
horseback riding, and outlet shopping.
Overview If you have never been to Gettysburg, you will be
surprised at the number of things that there are to do. The
National Park Visitor Center requires 2-3 hours or more. There
are 30 miles of roads and 6000 acres of parkland in the
National Military Park. You will want to see the Soldier's
National Cemetery where Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg
Address. Guided tours are the best way to get the most out or
your visit. An overview with a private guide takes two hours.
That overview will get you oriented so you can choose what you
want to explore in depth. There are many private museums that
focus on the Civil War, and more that cover other aspects of
history.
There are a myriad of ways that you can
explore different aspects of the Civil War and the Civil War
era. There are tours that focus on the military experience,
the civilian experience, and the black experience.
Don't forget that Gettysburg was also President
Eisenhower's home. Take time to visit his home. As the World
War II reenacting has become more popular, more shops in
Gettysburg are expanding from the Civil War to include World
War II topics and paraphernalia.
Once you are hooked
on Gettysburg, you will find that there is so much to explore
and learn that you will return over and over again.
