As a wedding venue, we have the gift of participating in gorgeous weddings all year long. Sometimes a couple has a very clear idea of the time of year they would like to celebrate (shout out to our October couples!), while others have a bit more flexibility in their planning process. For those who are narrowing down their dates, here are some things to consider about different seasons in Gettysburg, PA.
At Battlefield Bed & Breakfast, every season transforms our historic property in a different way. From flowering dogwoods in spring to vibrant autumn leaves across the Gettysburg Battlefield, each time of year creates its own atmosphere, photography opportunities, and guest experience.

Spring Weddings in Gettysburg (March – May)
Spring is the season of new beginnings, making it one of the most romantic times to celebrate your marriage. After a quiet winter, Gettysburg comes alive with fresh greenery, flowering trees, and colorful gardens.
WHAT’S BLOOMING IN GETTYSBURG IN THE SPRING?
Throughout Gettysburg, you’ll find:
- White and pink flowering dogwoods
- Redbud trees
- Apple Blossoms
- Buttercups
- Tulips
- Daffodils
- Hyacinths
- Cherry blossoms
- Lilacs
- Peonies
- Azaleas
- Wisteria
The rolling countryside surrounding the battlefield turns an incredible shade of green, creating timeless wedding portraits that feel lush and vibrant.
Why Couples Love Spring
Spring’s more moderate temperatures are comfortable for outdoor ceremonies, especially in our gardens. The softer light also creates beautiful photography throughout the day.
It’s a wonderful season for couples who want a garden-inspired celebration filled with fresh florals and pastel colors.
Things to Consider
While spring blossoms and flowering bulbs create stunning beauty, the trees tend to start bearing leaves in early May. If you want beautiful trees in your photos, late Spring (or early Summer) may be your best choice.
Spring weather can be unpredictable. While many days are sunny and mild, occasional rain showers are always possible. March can even be showered with snow!
One of the advantages of hosting your wedding at Battlefield Bed & Breakfast is having multiple ceremony options, both indoors and out. Whether you choose our historic barn, elegant Solarium, or Gardens and outdoor ceremony spaces, you have flexibility if Mother Nature changes her plans.

Things to Consider
Summer afternoons can be warm in Pennsylvania. Planning your ceremony for later in the day often provides cooler temperatures and softer golden-hour light. Choosing a date with peak heat? We recommend a garden wedding surrounded by blooms, a front patio cocktail hour under the string lights, an air conditioned dinner in the Solarium, and dessert and dancing in the Historic Barn once the sun is setting and the air is cooled.

Winter Weddings in Gettysburg (December–February)
Winter may be Gettysburg’s best-kept secret.
While many couples immediately picture spring or fall, winter weddings offer an intimate, cozy atmosphere that’s impossible to recreate during any other season.
Christmas at Battlefield Bed & Breakfast
From Thanksgiving through early January, our 1809 farmhouse is transformed with Christmas decorations throughout the property.
Historic fireplaces, beautifully decorated trees, garlands, wreaths, candlelight, and festive touches in nearly every room create an unforgettable holiday atmosphere.
For couples who love Christmas, it feels like celebrating inside a historic holiday movie.
Valentine’s Day Romance
February weddings have become increasingly popular for couples who embrace romance.
Imagine:
- Candlelit receptions
- Cozy fireplaces
- Rich jewel-toned florals
- Snowy landscapes (when Mother Nature cooperates)
- Hot cocoa bars
- Warm blankets around outdoor fire pits
A light snowfall creates some of the most magical wedding photographs imaginable against our historic stone farmhouse and barn.
Why Couples Love Winter
Winter weddings often offer:
- Greater date availability
- Lower travel costs for guests
- Cozy, intimate celebrations
- Unique seasonal décor
- Stunning holiday ambiance
Things to Consider
Weather is naturally less predictable during the winter months. Having beautiful indoor ceremony options gives couples peace of mind while still allowing for breathtaking photographs if snow arrives.
Which Season Is Best?
The truth is, there isn’t one perfect season.
Instead, the best wedding season reflects your personality.
Choose spring if you love fresh blooms, gardens, and the excitement of new beginnings.
Choose summer if you want a relaxed wedding weekend filled with sunshine, family gatherings, and outdoor celebrations.
Choose fall if you’ve always dreamed of colorful leaves, crisp air, and timeless rustic elegance.
Choose winter if you’re drawn to historic charm, Christmas magic, candlelight, or the romance of a snowy Gettysburg weekend.
No matter when you celebrate, Gettysburg offers an unforgettable backdrop steeped in history, surrounded by beautiful countryside, and close enough for guests from DC, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and New York City to enjoy an easy weekend getaway.
At Battlefield Bed & Breakfast, we believe your wedding should feel like coming home—a place where your favorite people gather together to celebrate, relax, and create memories that last long after the weekend ends.
