Beautiful Gardens and Historic Buildings

  • Wedding Garden: Make a dramatic grand entrance down our deck stairs before you exchange vows under the pergola in our stunning Wedding Garden, surrounded by natural beauty and flowerbeds exploding with color from April to November.
  • The Historic Barn: This charming, rustic space was built in 1820 and glows with warm string lights and sunbeams streaming through the wood slats on the walls. Large enough to accommodate up to 140 guests with a dance floor and DJ loft, the Historic Barn is our most popular reception space.
  • The Solarium: An elegant, climate-controlled option for ceremonies and smaller receptions, the Farmhouse’s Solarium has soaring ceilings, walls of windows overlooking the Wedding Garden, and a wrap-around deck with a gas fireplace.
  • The Patio Garden: Perfect for cocktail hour, the Patio Garden features wrought-iron umbrella tables circling a three-season floral centerpiece garden. Halfway between our ceremony spaces and the Historic Barn, the Patio Garden effortlessly moves the party along as guests chat or play lawn games under string lights while couples take alone time for portraits. The Patio Garden’s Carriage is a popular spot for photos and a fun location for gifts and card boxes.
  • The Oak Grove: A five-minute stroll through the woods brings guests into a magical forest clearing, surrounded by 200-year-old witness trees. A rustic wood platform is centered between towering oaks and centuries-old boulders, setting the stage for your whimsical woodland wedding ceremony.
  • The Great Lawn: Acres of possibility unfold before you on our largest grass lawn, allowing for infinite creativity. An arbor overlooks a stone wall and pond, but other couples have chosen to bring in their own backdrops with the fields behind it, from vintage fireplaces to gold circle arches to myriad floral fantasies. The only limit is your imagination!
  • The Fire Pits: Next to the barn, a large stone circle hosts 4 gas firepits surrounded by conversation sets of chairs and sofas. Your guests will enjoy taking a break from dancing while roasting a marshmallow, and you and your sweetheart will love ending the day discussing high points with your inner circle who are staying at the B&B!
  • The Barn Bank: One of the hallmarks of a historic Pennsylvania barn, the main space is accessed via a gravel ramp leading to the mouth of the barn where the barn was built into a “bank” of earth. The ramp is perfect for dramatic entrances and exits and looks gorgeous when lit up for sparkler send-offs. A large walnut tree at the bottom of the ramp houses glowing lamps that glimmer above the inn’s vintage couch photo area.

The History of the Property and Historic Barn

Set back in the beautiful countryside of Gettysburg, PA on the location of the South Cavalry Battlefield, Battlefield Bed and Breakfast Inn is a unique wedding venue with an intimate connection to the Battle of Gettysburg and the history of the United States Military.

The beautifully restored 1809 field stone Farmhouse was both witness to the Battle of Gettysburg and headquarters for Union Major General Wesley Merritt, who served in the American Civil War, the American Indian Wars, and the Spanish – American War. Major General Wesley Merritt would also go on to become the superintendent of West Point in 1882.

The Bed and Breakfast’s thirty-acre property was used by the Union Army as a camp location and the Historic Barn was utilized as a Union Army Field Hospital. Battlefield Bed and Breakfast Inn exists today as a living historical monument to the brave soldiers who fought and perished fighting for the cause of freedom and the future of our great nation.

Every day at the Inn begins with a morning history presentation with one of our highly educated Civil War Historians and a delicious full breakfast. We serve foods reminiscent of rural living, so expect scrumptious pan-fried farm potatoes, farm fresh eggs, savory breakfast meats, and a fine selection of made-from-scratch baked goods.
